PA Governor Wolf’s Cabinet Making Business Deemed “Life Sustaining”?!?! … It’s Good to be KING

While most businesses have been shuttered in Pennsylvania due to Governor Wolf’s Order of Governor of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Regarding the Closure of All Businesses that are not Life Sustaining, and incorporated List of Life Sustaining Businesses, of March 19, 2020, we can all breath a sigh of relief that The Wolf Organization, a York-based kitchen cabinet and building products company, which dates back to a Wolf ancestor in the 1800s, has been deemed to be life-sustaining!

The history of The Wolf Organization is beyond the scope of this article, but is set forth in detail in an article by the York Daily Record, entitled The Wolf Organization’s roots date back to an ancestor of the governor. Although The Wolf Organization announced in May of 2015 that Quad-C, a Virginia-based private equity firm, has become a majority owner in the business, “the Wolf Organization’s management team owns the rest.” And while the article goes on to declare that the “company’s CEO, Craig Danielson, later said Wolf is no longer a shareholder,” of course, he wouldn’t be a shareholder, because, as the article also reviews, his “blind trust” is the shareholder, where “Bill Zimmerman, a cousin and former business partner, [] make[s] certain investment decisions, primarily related to the Wolf Organization.”

A quick call to their Office – 800-388-9653 – located at 20 West Market Street, York, PA 17401, results in a nice lady informing you, if you ask, that while their showroom is currently closed, they’re open for business, taking orders and working on existing orders.

That’s right, folks. While Governor Wolf is “urging all non-life sustaining business to close,” his family business, making cabinets, is open and producing. How exactly is cabinet making life-sustaining? Perhaps more importantly, how is it that social distancing and other forms of mitigation don’t apply to the Wolf Organization?

More importantly, although Governor Wolf recently permitted, to a limited extent, firearm dealers to remain open, he imposed significant restrictions on them, declaring:

Except that firearms dealers may operate physical businesses on a limited basis to complete only the portions of a sale/transfer that must be conducted in-person under the law, subject to the following restrictions: 1) all such sale/transfers will be conducted by individual appointment during limited hours only so as to minimize social interactions and congregating of persons; 2) the dealer will comply with social distancing, sanitization of applicable area between appointments, and other mitigation measures to protect its employees and the public.

Why is it that firearm dealers, who are of a constitutionally protected class, can only conduct sales/transfers “during limited hours so as to minimize social interactions and congregations of persons;” yet the Wolf Organization remains open for business as usual, with the exception of the showroom? Why is it that firearm dealers must “comply with social distancing, sanitization of applicable area between appointments, and other mitigation measures to protect its employees and the public;” but, the Wolf Organization does not?

Perhaps most importantly, when did building cabinets become a constitutional right?

I guess it’s good to be King…

  3. Governor Wolf was given $2 billion by the federal government. According to an article I read $200 million of said amount cannot be accounted for. Today Pennsylvania state legislature gave Governor Wolf $2.6 billion. Can anyone, any time, anyway order an audit? A real audit.
