It was almost six year ago the first time I wrote an article here about an expansion to Sunday hunting opportunities in the Commonwealth, and all we were getting was three measly days per year for big game species. It was over four years ago the last time I wrote about PGC’s expansion of Sunday hunting permissibility for several small game and furbearer species.
Now, as of June 30, 2025, both chambers of the PA General Assembly have passed House Bill 1431 sending it to the Governor for signature or veto. If passed, HB 1431 will entirely repeal 34 Pa.C.S. § 2303 prohibiting Sunday hunting. This would see Pennsylvania joining the 40+ other states that don’t specifically regulate Sunday hunting. Now if only we can get the same for semi-auto hunting….
You can read the full text of the Bill here, and check out this guide for help understanding the different types of text and markings in a bill.
