Governor Shapiro Signs Sunday Hunting Repeal: What You Need to Know

As we discussed in our previous article, the repeal of the prohibition on Sunday hunting was headed for Governor Shapiro’s desk; however, it was unknown whether Governor Shapiro would sign it. Today, we got our answer. Governor Shapiro signed HB 1431, thereby repealing the prohibition on Sunday hunting in the Commonwealth and authorizing the Pennsylvania Game Commission to provide additional Sunday hunting opportunities.

As a result, the Board of Game Commissioners will meet and discuss, in a not yet announced meeting, when additional Sunday hunting opportunities will be implemented.

As many of you are aware, Sunday hunting had been broadly prohibited, except for foxes, coyotes, and crows during open seasons and most other game on three consecutive Sundays in the fall.

Current Sunday hunting dates for the 2025-26 season:

  • November 16
  • November 23
  • November 30

On these three Sundays, any game that’s in season may be hunted, with the exception of turkeys and migratory game birds.

To hunt on private land on these Sundays, hunters must obtain written permission from the landowner.

If you or someone you know is interested in speaking to an attorney about a Game Law matter, charged with a Game Code violation, or facing revocation of your hunting license, contact FICG today to discuss your options.
