Today, HB 1188, a bill which removes the restriction on the use of thermal and night vision devices for hunting in Pennsylvania, after having been passed by the House and Senate, was signed in the House and will be transmitted to the Senate for final signature and thereafter headed to Governor Wolf’s desk.
Currently, 34 Pa.C.S. 2308(b)(1)(ii), Unlawful devices and methods, provides that
no archery sight or firearm’s scope shall contain or use any device, no matter how powered, to project or transmit any light beam, infrared beam, ultraviolet light beam, radio beam, thermal beam, ultrasonic beam, particle beam or other beam outside the sight or scope onto the target
HB 1188 would eliminate/delete all of Section 2380(b)(1)(ii); thereby, permitting the use of infrared, thermal, and other light or particle beams onto the target, unless otherwise prohibited. This is a monumental step forward in the protection of hunters, as many forms of game can or can only be taken at night and permitting the use of thermal and night vision will ensure the safety of those hunters.
It is believed that Governor Wolf will sign HB 1188; thereby ensuring hunter safety!
